Bad “Save the dollar” translation

Posted on April 17, 2007. Filed under: News & Politics, North America |

I found a terrible translation in the Big Apple. Two banners–one in English and one in Spanish–hung outside a Washington Mutual branch in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. The English banner reads: “Save the Dollar” and its Spanish counterpart reads: “Salva a tus dólares.” I think that other Hispanics will agree with me when I say: WaMu’s translators have gotten it oh so wrong; it should be “Ahorra tus dólares.” Looks like WaMu has to spend a few more dollars on Spanish translators.
