New Latino cartoon “El Tigre”

Dora the Explorer has some company. Nickelodeon has produced a new animated series for Latino kids called “El Tigre.” Its young protagonist, 13-year-old Manny Rivera, represents a positive portrayal of Latino heritage with his superhero status (when he wears his mystical belt buckle, he becomes the valiant and powerful “El Tigre”) and his Latin American background.”El Tigre” is the brainchild of Sandra Equihua and Jorge Gutierrez, who aspire to show an accurate and positive depiction of Latino culture.

So watch out Speedy Gonzalez and Dora the Explorer. You’ve got some competition.
